“The Wall Between: What Jews and Palestinians Don’t Want to Know About Each Other”

We have been invited to this web seminar by the Fellowship of Reconciliation, which “has been working fro peace and justice through nonviolence since 1915”.  The event, part of a monthly series, features Ariel Gold talking with authors Raja Khouri and Jeffrey Wilkinson, whose book was released just days before October 7th.

An excerpt from the book:

Both Jews and Palestinians have a traumatic past and have endured great pain and victimization that must be understood better by the Other. Yet, understanding alone will not create a better and more peaceful future.  We know that conflict is, in part, a natural relational “us vs. them” phenomenon that is rooted in how we process knowledge, filter information, and remember our individual and collective histories.
Throughout the book, the reader is asked to push the boundaries of tribal expectation, to risk knowing disquieting truths, and to include the narrative of the Other within their own. Individually and tribally, we tend to see our stories in a way that excludes the Other’s stories, leaving us on separate paths, only concerned for ourselves.
